About Andechs

Ours is one of the last genuine monastery breweries managed by an active religious order, entirely independent of corporations. Benedictines of St. Boniface Abbey in Munich and Andechs represent a special monastic brewing tradition. Here beers can mature into an “enjoyment for the body and soul”.

Benedictine brewing tradition – the latest brewing technology

The roots of the Andechs brewing tradition extend back to serving the pilgrims that have been coming to the Holy Mountain since 1128. The Benedictines have been serving pilgrims in Andechs since 1455, receiving them with hospitality. The monastery brewery is committed to sustainable growth and maintaining the monastic identity to this day.

Our monastery’s beers are brewed exclusively in Andechs using the traditional multiple mashing process. They have served as ambassadors of Andechs hospitality for more than 550 years. The Andechs monks finance their many activities, such as help for the homeless in Munich, with the monastery brewery – and no church tax funds.

Weizenbock
7.0% ABV
Enjoy our seasonal beer specialty Andechser Weizenbock from October to February. Its unique taste is achieved through harmoniously balanced fruit acids with a slight honey sweetness. Brewed with top fermentation, the aromas are reminiscent of a typical wheat beer and at the same time of a full-bodied, hoppy bock beer. It is fruity, with a strong, soft beer body and a rather reserved hop bitterness. The roasted aromas of grilled beef and scallops with a lime-coriander-sesame-honey mustard dip are an ideal companion to the fruity notes of our Andechser Weizenbock.
